About our current project

A bone chilling tale of supernatural evil, teamwork and panicked survival.

Introduction

Transcendence is a cooperative, story and event driven horror game for two players. The game is in 3D, seen through third person view, and it can be played with either an Xbox 360 controller or a regular keyboard and mouse.

Gameplay

The game has two playable characters: Adam Townsend, a reporter who writes about supernatural occurrences, but doesn't believe in it. The other character is Jane Crawford, a wealthy woman who has devoted her life to finding and curing (or, if necessary, killing) her husband, who turned into a werewolf many years ago and hasn't been seen since. The story is quite different depending on what character the player chooses, so in order to find out the whole story the player has to play the game twice.

The game is set in the year of 1890, in an old hotel somewhere in the USA, far from civilization. The hotel is haunted by three evil spirits that follow and attack the players, and will stop at nothing to cleanse their house of the living. The characters don't have access to any weapons, so in order to defend themselves they have to be creative and use things they can find in their environment. For example, the players can pick up smaller objects, such as vases, and throw at the ghosts, or move furniture in order to block doorways.

Development

Our current project is for the course Large Team Game Development Project (DV1221, 22.5cp), and is a co-op horror game named Transcendence. The game is developed in C++ using Henrik "DragonSpawn" Poulsens own DirectX 10-game engine. Bullet is used for the physics, and FMOD is used for the sound. We program in Microsoft Visual Studio 2008, and use SVN to keep everyone updated with the latest version of the project.
